I wrote the opening line for this song in 2017. It constantly resurfaces, getting stuck in my head. I never tire of the smooth melody, no matter how it twists and turns around the key. It manipulates my emotions, motivating some kind of swagger. The song plays in my mind for hours, never moving past the opening line. Written in a single moment, for years nothing seemed to grow out of it. Every moment is a timestamp on history, and music – on a page, during a performance, or in a recording – represents sound that happens in a single moment. Wrong or right, each note I hit stays on the timeline forever. Every note happens in a “Permanent Moment.” To be fair, I get paid for music, not philosophy.
