I love mixing genres and sounds to merge cultures... or feel two different vibes in one sonic exploration. I enjoy the excitement created by juxtaposing a Celtic sounding melody with an Afro-Cuban 6-8 rhythm (“Winter Whisper”), or a funky bossa-nova with swing (“Vernos Pronto”). In “Pantomime,” you can hear the fine line between reggae and funk. A light change in the drum groove or harmonic chord placement, and you straddle the fence between both. In fact, it’s the same concept that created “Funk Synonymous.” Now that I think about it, I’ve written more than a dozen tunes that flip between genres.
