Tom has been intertwined into several important moments in my career history. If you’re familiar with my first book, Sea Breeze, he played upright bass and Brazilian guitar on “Stargazer.” He was one of the first musicians with whom I performed steel pan. In fact, we started that gig playing with backing tracks, and halfway through the performance, he convinced me that the two of us could do justice to a raw acoustic sound. At that point, we ditched the electronic “rhythm section” and played an unrehearsed set sans-tracks. Exactly one week later, my band Panoramic View had its first gig. We played 12 world premieres from Sea Breeze at that festival! After I made the set list for the gig, I wrote “Soca Cola” (available in my 2nd book, Chasing Summer). Hot off the presses, we inserted the chart on stage for our initial read-through. Tom and I still play unaccompanied duo gigs, and moonlight in a number of other freelance projects. I'm so glad he joined me for this one! His last name translates to “Little Easter,” hence the song title.
