I sent my drum set audition tape to a cruise line in 2011, and was immediately offered me a job in Europe. About a week later, I stepped off a plane and met a man who changed my life. Over the next 5 months our conversations took us across boundaries that usually would have been clearly defined by culture, experience, age, opinion and eventually location. But music bridged all these gaps. Before Jack settled in Cabo San Lucas, he convinced me to seriously apply myself to Steel Pan. He re-introduced me to an instrument I had only briefly encountered, and got me kick-started with a piece of sound advice: “You live near the water. It only makes sense.” His observation made an epic impact that inspired me to launch a career into unchartered waters.
